AnglicareSA needs Volunteers to assist in one of our four main emergency assistance centres across metropolitan Adelaide, supporting people through crisis and access in their time of need.
It doesn’t take much to go from surviving to living in poverty. In each of our centres, we respond to practical needs and provide relief through the provision of food, clothing, support, and advocate for individuals & families who need assistance.
We are calling out for Volunteers who possess the following attributes:
- Friendly and welcoming personality
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Patience, empathy and the willingness to help people
- Relate well with people from a variety of different backgrounds
- Willingness to work autonomously and as a member of a team
- Ability to work with compassion and in a non-judgemental and respectful manner
- A sense of humour that will not offend others or put them down
- Ability to use initiative and work within our boundaries, procedures and guidelines
- Be suitability fit to comply with the physical requirements of the position
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of client privacy and confidentiality
Volunteers who can commit to:
- One shift a week at one of our emergency assistance centres
- Available Monday – Friday. Hours are flexible and negotiable
Volunteers who can make their own way to one of our locations:
- The Magdalene Centre – 82 Gilbert Street, Adelaide 5000
- Outer Southern Hub – 111 Beach Road, Christies Beach 5165
- The Elizabeth Mission – 91-93 Elizabeth Way, Elizabeth 5112
- Mary’s Picket Fence – 1167 South Road, St. Mary’s 5042
Have experience in or the desire to learn the following responsibilities and duties:
- Provide financial and material aid to clients in consultation with your Coordinator
- Provide appropriate advice, information and referral of clients
- Ensure that the client is receiving all benefits and concessions to which they are entitled
- Make accurate and non-judgemental records of client interviews
- Data entry
- Handling and stocking goods or transport of goods may be required
- Donation sorting
- Basic Food handling procedures
- Other duties as requested by the Program Manager / Site Coordinator
Full Volunteer induction and training will be provided to all volunteers following a successful interview.
It is mandatory for all AnglicareSA staff and Volunteers in the Emergency Assistance program to hold a current National Police Check (NPC) and a Working with Children Check (WWCC). Preference will be given to applicants who already hold these clearances with a period of 6 months before expiry. *AnglicareSA covers all police check costs.
